Dental Health Week 2021: Keep Your Smile for Life | Dentists on Vincent

by | Aug 1, 2021 | Dental Health Week 2021

Dental Health Week 2021 takes place every year in the first full week of August, and this year it falls from 2 to 8 August.

This year’s campaign focuses on the importance of caring for your teeth and gums to help you to keep your smile for life.

The ADA’s main oral health messages and the four key messages of the 2021 Dental Health Week campaign aim to reinforce the importance of maintaining good oral health to keep your teeth for life:

#1 Brush teeth at least two times a day with fluoride-containing toothpaste

Brush your teeth once in the morning and once before sleeping or whenever you feel like you need to freshen up your smile after a meal.

Upgrading to an electric toothbrush is a great way to level up your brushing routine as they offer a more thorough clean compared to manual toothbrushes.

#2 Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes

Floss at least once daily, ideally before brushing your teeth. Flossing before bedtime brushing ensures no hidden food debris can cause issues while you sleep. Flossing should also be done if you feel like food is stuck in your teeth.

#3 Maintain a healthy, balanced diet and limit added sugar consumption

A smile-friendly diet is a varied diet based on fresh, natural foods. Focus your main meals around fresh produce and healthy protein sources.

Consulting with a nutritionist can be beneficial if you’re not sure where to start or you have underlying health issues that make the diet a sensitive subject.

#4 Visit your Leederville dentist for check-ups and preventive dental care

Biannual exams uncover subtle early warning signs of trouble.

Most dental health problems aren’t apparent to us until we begin to feel pain, at which point damage has already been done. Only your Leederville dentist will be able to notice the subtle early warning signs of trouble.

Professional dental cleans prevent decay and gum disease.

Plaque removal not only keeps cavities at bay but also helps our gums. Plaque build-up is the main cause of gingivitis and gum disease, making biannual cleanings crucial for gum health.

Keep Your Smile for Life!

Your natural teeth are the best ones you have. While modern dentistry has amazing treatment options such as dental implants, cosmetic dentistry and dental restoration, these should be a last resort.

Hanging onto your actual teeth is a much better (and much cheaper) option.

Add these up, and you lower the chance of suffering tooth decay or gum disease. And that means less time in the dentist chair undergoing costly treatments.
