Leederville Dentist Tips: Top 4 Reasons to Use Your Dental Insurance Now
The year’s end is packed with lots of fun activities.
Family, school, and work obligations can keep you busy, without paying attention to other important things, like your dental and overall health.
One of the important things people often forget to keep track of are the dental plan benefits that your insurance plan offers you – you need to fully use them up.
When it comes to dental benefits, millions of patients annually ring in the New Year by leaving free money on the table.
Estimates vary, but it is generally accepted that less than 5% of Australians reach or exceed the monetary limits of their dental insurance plans.
No matter what plan you have, it is very likely that it has a yearly expiration date, and in most cases that expiration date is December 31st.
It’s up to you to make sure these valuable dollars don’t go to waste, and Dentists on Vincent is here to help you maximise them. So, let’s take a look at dental insurance, and what you can do to benefit from it.
The following are great reasons to use your dental insurance before the year changes.
1) Yearly Maximum
The yearly maximum is the largest amount of money that a dental insurance plan will pay for your dental work within one full year. This amount varies by the insurance company, but the average is $800 per year, per person.
The yearly maximum usually renews every year (every January 1st if your plan is based on a calendar year). If you have unused dental benefits, they will not roll over to the next year.
If you are paying premium dental insurance every month, you should be using your benefits. Even if you don’t need any treatment, you should always have your regular dental scale and clean to help prevent and detect any early signs of cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, or other dental issues.
3) Fee Increases
Another reason to use your benefits before the year ends, is the possibility of fee increase. Some dentists increase their rates at the start of the year due to the increased cost of living, materials and equipment. A fee increase can also make your dental expenses increase.
4) Dental Problems Can Worsen
By delaying dental treatment, you are risking more extensive and expensive treatment in the future. What may be simple tooth decay today, could turn into a root canal problem down the road. Call your dentist and schedule an appointment to use your benefits.
5) Dental Insurance: Use It or Lose It!
The yearly maximum typically renews each year on a calendar year basis, such as on January 1st. The benefits do not carry over to the next year and must be used by December 31st.
If you don’t utilise your maximum coverage benefit, you lose those benefits. Unused benefits don’t roll over into the next year; thus, they just go to waste.
